Mission Statement
The mission of the Testing Center is to provide a secure, comfortable, and minimally distractive testing environment for Duke undergraduates who qualify and are enrolled in a course with a professor who uses the Testing Center. We adhere to the Professional Standards and Guidelines set forth by the National College Testing Association (NCTA).

Our Team
Cynthia Duarte, MDiv, Manager
Cynthia brings over 20 years of experience in higher education, specializing in academic assessment, advising, and ADA policy and procedures. She holds an MDiv from Duke Divinity School, an MCE from the Apex School of Theology, and a BA in Religion and Philosophy from Shaw University.
Joanna Eddy, Testing Coordinator
Joanna joined the Duke Testing Center in the fall of 2022 as a full-time Test Specialist/Proctor. She earned a BA in History from St. Thomas Aquinas College in 2005. After college, she briefly worked in administration at Strayer University, where she enjoyed interacting with students.
Mina Khatibi, Test Proctor
Mina Khatibi joined the Duke Testing Center team in the fall of 2021. She hails from Tehran, Iran, where she earned her BS with honors in urban geography from Beheshti University and pursued her M.S. at Tehran University. In addition, Mina served as a researcher for two years and as a teacher for 23 years.
Rebecca Burke, Test Proctor
Rebecca, a North Carolina native, retired after 36 years of teaching in the state’s public schools. She holds both a BA and a Master of Education degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Elcy Birgen, Test Proctor
Elcy Birgen, a Kenyan native, holds an MS in Global Health from Duke University (2024) and a BSN from the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton. Before attending Duke, Elcy worked as a registered nurse and researcher with the Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare (AMPATH), a collaborative effort involving several North American universities, including Duke, based in Western Kenya.
